Portraits

Portraiture is the greatest challenge for an artist, and I paint the person in person (I used to paint from a slide in the 1980s because of a lack of confidence).

Often people say the portrait says more about the painter than the sitter, and in some ways, this may be true, as the artist is only painting their view of the person or the scene before them.

But in portraiture, because it takes many hours (often), the artist and the model get to know one another like in no other medium (often without their defences), and the process is lovely, painting may take different directions throughout the process.
