Shelby
For over 8 years Shelby has sat for numerous paintings for me. Many of the paintings are a result of our talks and Shelby's impact.
Painting 1. This painting of Shelby was a finalist in the 2013 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.
Painting 2.This was my tribute to James Abbott McNeill Whistler.
Painting 3. This painting was never exhibited. I intended to do a portrait of Shelby in a contemporary setting for a modern young lady.
Unfortunately life took over, it is funny I suppose in retrospect, everything was going along nicely, and then events took a wrong turn (I emphasis not between artist and model). Shelby watched transfixed as the painting morphed and changed before her eyes. I work very fast at the time, and within 45 minutes, the portrait became an explosion of emotion unrelated to what we had planned. It is probably one of my best works but of the worst of times.
Painting 4. I was for a long time painting in the home family room, this is an image of the set in the background and the partially finished painting in the foreground.
Painting 5.This is my take on the “Birth of Venous” by Fritz Zuber-Buhler.
Painting 6. This is an early image of the painting unframed, Shelby named it “The Road Not Taken” by the poet Robert Frost. I entered it in the Swan Art Award in 2017 and it was exhibited in the BHP building in Perth and moved to the St John of God hospitals, a very exciting time. Water colour, gold and silver leaf.
Painting 7. A fun, quick, modern painting.
Behind the Scences
Althought it is very rewarding seeing the final painting complete, what brings me the most enjoyment is the journey of the painting and the process.
